Stayed at the local campsite during 2nd bank hols in May. We were recommended to try the New Inn as being the best pub locally for food, beers and welcome. We were not dissapointed...in fact we ate and drank [a bit!!] here and nowhere else. Food was really good, fresh and lots of it. Know why the place was packed everytime we went there!!. the owners and their staff gave us a very warm "irish" welcome everytime. Would not hesitate to recommend the pub everytime....

With all the glowing testimonials we have recieved for Rena and Jack at the New Inn, we were expecting something a little special when we took some friends over last week for some pub grub. Wow!....it would be fair to say I had the best steak I have ever eaten, and I've had my fair share over the years.
The New Inn has got this great reputation and now we know why. absolutely fabulous guys, we all really enjoyed our meals in lovely surroundings. That open fire is just the job on a cold winters evening. Big thanks to the staff who looked after us so well.

We called in here on the last Saturday of January and found in the best sense a great "old fashioned" country pub.

We were a party of 15 walkers aged from 6 months to over 60. The welcome was first rate, the beer was excellent, there were several to choose from and I can confirm that the Butty Bach, went down particularly well. For food we had various choices, the (well) filled rolls and chips were both copious and very tasty, the sandwiches ditto, and I am told the soup was lovely. One of our number had scotch egg and chips and when he had finished, Rena the landlady came out with another portion for free, as she said "You're a big man so you'll want another one", he is well over 6 ft.

The log fire was warm and inviting but eventually we had to go. The pub is superb and Rena is a gem. If you are anywhere nearby then the New Inn at Shortstanding is well worth a visit.

We stayed at the Forestry Commission Christ Church campsite for 3 nights and The New Inn was a great place to stroll to for good drinks and great food. The manager (a very friendly Irish Lady) obviously pays alot of attention to making sure that good home cooked food is at the centre of her business. The menu was simple and relatively small but everything on it was a real gem of home cooked loveliness- something which is seen all too little in teh pub trade now.

what a great find, on a freezing cold Saturday after coming down from a long walk around the rock and the yat to find a roaring fire and a great hostess.wonderful REAL home cooked food, soda bread made by Rena herself, own cooked ham melting in the mouth and delicious tasty bits she thought we might like to try all accompanied by good beer and well recommended red wine whilst sat by the fire. We will certainly recommend to friends and We will return.
