Her aptitude with painting and decorating led her to take formal qualifications in painting and decorating via local college once her children had grown up. She attained credits for her ICA Intermediate Construction Awards, both for core knowledge and practical applications as a painter and decorator and Credits and Distinctions for her ACA Advanced Construction Awards Level 3. These included specialist painter techniques in marbling, graining and ragging for which she had a natural painter and decorating flair. She achieved some of the highest grades for that year's student painters and decorators.
