Poverty and Homelessness Action Week
16th December 2013

Poverty and Homelessness Action Week has been running annually since 2008 and aims to highlight the different issues affecting those people affected by poverty and/or homelessness.

This year the week runs from 25 January to 2 February 2014 and the Biblical quotation “Speak up for the rights of all who are destitute” has been chosen as the theme.

Despite being 7th in the list of the world’s wealthiest nations, Britain still has a sizeable number of people living in, or very close to, “destitution”, not just homeless people but those who are forced to access food banks, or are just one or two wage packets away from losing their homes.

Poverty and Homelessness Action Week this year will once again try to:

- raise awareness of the issues of poverty and homelessness in theUK

- raise funds for projects and campaigns which work to tackle poverty and homelessness

- involve people in campaign actions that tackle the causes of poverty and homelessness

Here in Aldershot the remarkable Vine Day Centre helps vulnerable and homeless adults every day and has done for 25 years. Let’s hope that with increased awareness nationwide more charities like The Vine can be set up and supported long-term to help stamp out destitution and homelessness across all communities.

If you wish to support this worthy cause why not download the flyer for more information, and get involved.
