Frimley Pit Fisheries raised a whopping £16,191 for local Hospice Care charity Phyllis Tuckwell, at their charity fishing weekend. Run by the Fisheries’ owners Lorraine and Mark Fisher, the event was held on the weekend of Friday 15th  Sunday 17th July and saw 150 people visit over the weekend, including 60 fishermen who camped at the site for two nights, fishing for common and mirror carp in the day and socialising in the evenings. Dodging July’s intermittent rain, the weekend was gloriously sunny and - as well as the fishing - those present enjoyed a BBQ, raffle and live auction.

“This is the second year that we have held this fishing weekend in aid of Phyllis Tuckwell, said Lorraine, “Last year we raised just over £8,600, so to almost double that this year is a huge achievement! The atmosphere was fantastic and everyone had a brilliant time thank you to everyone who came along to support the event, especially Les Bowers, Nigel Sharp and Rick Harrison who worked so hard and gave their time so generously, along with donations of gifts for the raffle and auction.

The money raised will help fund the end of life care which Phyllis Tuckwell offers patients and families in West Surrey and North East Hampshire, who are living with a terminal illness, such as cancer. Every day the charity supports over 250 patients, relatives and carers - in their own homes, at the Hospice in Farnham and at the Beacon Centre in Guildford - through a mix of medical and nursing care, therapies, counselling, social work advice and practical support.

“We would like to thank all those who put such a huge amount of work into organising this event, said Leanne Tembo, Community Fundraiser at Phyllis Tuckwell. “It really is an amazing amount of money. Because the NHS/Government only covers 20% of our costs, we have to raise over £20,000 a day to be able to offer all of our services to our patients and families, and we rely heavily on fundraising events such as this to meet that target.
