The average Christmas tree takes an average of 8 years to grow from a sapling which is itself 3 years old and, here in the UK, there are more than 10 different varieties of Christmas trees grown.

And, there are some genuine environmental benefits regarding real Christmas trees … so, before you rush to buy an artificial variety ….

  • The UK is now self-sufficient in producing trees
  • Christmas trees remove dust and pollen from the air
  • Artificial trees will last for less than 6 years in your home … but for centuries in a landfill!!
  • An acre of real Christmas trees provides for the daily oxygen requirements of 18 people

And, every year since 1947, the people of Oslo, Norway have given a Christmas tree to the city of Westminster, England. The gift is an expression of good will and gratitude for Britain’ help to Norway during World War 11.
