Adventures in Farnham – a quick tour

Well, September was an exciting month in Farnham. Amongst numerous other events few could have been more thrilling than the sight of traffic moving at speed on the Shepherd and Flock roundabout. I am, of course, referring to the Tour of Britain. High speed lycra hit our streets on Saturday 21st yet there were no reports of near-collisions between cyclists and locals leaping across the Borough to get to the cash-point.

The antidote to watching all that over-exertion must be the Farnham Food Festival that took place the following Saturday; a perfect opportunity to put back all the calories you believe the Gold Jerseys must have burnt off during those eight days. An annual event and the grand finale of the Farnham Food Fortnight the festival plays host to over 50 food companies and producers who set up their stalls along Castle Street.

What with this festival and the monthly Farmer’s Market there are plenty of local and diverse foods on offer in Farnham. Further along the Tour of Britain route the Six Bells pub is steadily becoming popular with vegetarian friends who have waxed lyrical about their veggie-friendly menu and home-made desserts. The pub also boasts a skittle alley which is perfect for those that don’t want to take their exercise out onto a main road.
