Walking past Alton Sports Shop in the Woolmead last Thursday, I thought it was about time for a new pair of trainers. I was greeted by James , the manager, and he introduced me to the Alton Sports experience:
There was an initial Q and A assessment to determine whether I had been experiencing any problems in my current shoes and investigate the type of training I was looking at doing. James explained that these factors play an integral part in building up an holistic view of each client. Next, he showed me the Gait analysis machine to assess my foot function, the assessment usually gives them a clearer picture of the why's and how's I may be experiencing any problems (if I have any).
James explained further:
Many Lower limb injuries are caused by the pressures experienced when the foot over pronates; lateral knee pain, shin pain and foot pain can be eased or eradicated if I have the correct shoe. Its a common misconception that any running shoe will suit any foot, the important part of the trainer is within the midsole, each shoe offers different amounts of support and cushioning. We aim to fit the foot with the perfect shoe for the customer.
James showed me a video recording of me on the Gait analysis machine and was then able to recommend 3 or 4 different pairs of trainers for me to choose from.
I am now the owner and wearer of a pair of really comfortable Brooks walking trainers; confident in the knowledge that my feet are supported and protected in the most appropriate footwear for my individual way of walking.
