Did you know Bengal Lounge im Farnham has been nominated for the British Curry Awards 2011? and as its National Curry Week we went along to The Benegal Lounge in Farnham to have a chat with owner Ashiq Islam.
After speaking with owner Ashiq Islam, it would be difficult to meet anyone with more passion about food or his business and it was no surprise that his customers had nominated The Bengal Lounge for this year's British Curry Awards.
The British Curry Awards 2011 takes place on Monday 28th November at London's Battersea Park. Launched in 2005 it is known as the 'Oscars of the curry industry' and certainly the largest and most spectacular ceremony in the UK's hospitality calendar.
The Bengal Lounge, based in Wrecclesham, distinguishes itself from other local Indian restaurants by its authentic range of Bangladeshi food. Specialist chefs create amazing, freshly cooked to order currys, which differ from traditional Indian food through the subtle but distinct blend of herbs and spices.
The impeccable, homely exterior, entices you inside The Bengal Lounge to a welcoming atmosphere. With a cosy but contemporary feel the restaurant is split into three inviting sections; perfect for couples, small groups or larger parties. A circular dinning booth is great for my friends and I to enjoy the delicious food and catch up on the latest gossip. There is also a more open plan area for special party celebrations or lunchtime business meetings. The restaurant's large car park takes the stress out of driving aiding the beginning of a relaxing evening.
I was recommended the Maas Biran starter, a mouth watering fish appetizer with a truly traditional Bengali background, which has won many admirers. The wide selection of dishes includes regular chefs specialities, some just like those from back home, others with a contemporary twist – definitely something for every one. You can view their excellent menu online.
Owner of The Bengal Lounge, Ashiq Islam, has worked in restaurants since he left school, so is well placed to run his own business. He went on to take over The Banaras in Downing Street, Farnham and has owned the Bengal Lounge for the last 5 years.
Putting his restaurant's success and his customer's loyalty down to the excellent quality of food and personal service, he confirmed “I always try to make my customers feel happy and do my very best to meet their requirements”
Ashiq has a friendly placid manner and seems to take everything in his stride but when asked what winning the British Curry Awards would mean to him he excitedly replied “I would be dancing!”
If you have already enjoyed the delights of the Bengal Lounge why not leave a testimonial and share your experience – let the British Curry Award judges know why we love The Bengal Lounge.
