The Best Of Farnborough has just learnt that the opening of a Public Inquiry, which will consider Rushmoor Borough Council’s decision to refuse planning permission for increased flying at Farnborough Airport, has been delayed by a week.

The Public Inquiry to consider the appeal by TAG Aviation was originally due to open on Tuesday 18 May, but will now start on Wednesday 26 May at 11am.

The delay has been announced by the Planning Inspectorate and is due to a problem with the availability of the inspector appointed to hear the inquiry.

TAG Aviation want to increase the total number of business aviation movements at Farnborough Airport from 28,000 to a maximum of 50,000 movements per year (a movement is a take-off or a landing). This would also include an increase in the number of business aviation movements at weekends and Bank Holidays from 5,000 to 8,900 per year.

The Council’s Development Control Committee rejected the proposals at a special meeting in November 2009.

The Public Inquiry will be held at the Council Offices in Farnborough and is expected to last 28 days.  Members of the public will be able to attend.

After the inquiry, the Inspector will report to the Secretaries of State for Communities and Local Government and for Transport, who will make the final decision.

Further information about the inquiry is available at www.rushmoor.gov.uk
