For the first time this Summer secondary school pupils living in Rushmoor will be able to travel locally free of charge on buses, and also get discounts at local leisure venues.
Rushmoor Schools Plus, Stagecoach, and Rushmoor Borough Council are working together to offer all Rushmoor young people currently attending secondary school a Megarider bus pass, allowing free, unlimited travel on the Blackwater Valley ticket zone for a six-week period over the school summer holiday, from 24th July until 5th September. The pass will also allow young people discounts to participate in activities at Rushmoor leisure venues.
Tony McGovern, Partnership Manager for Rushmoor Schools Plus, said: ‘This is a new and exciting opportunity for young people in Rushmoor to get out and about this Summer. There has always been lots going on across the borough during the school holiday, but young people have often said that transport to and from venues is a problem. Now, for instance, having the Megarider pass will enable young people to get a free bus to Farnborough Leisure Centre, and take part in their free swimming programme at certain times. We’re delighted to be working with Stagecoach, Rushmoor Borough Council, local schools and leisure providers to offer the pass, and if it’s successful we’ll work hard to carry on the scheme in future years.’
Some of the funding for the bus pass has come from a central government scheme to enable young people who are economically disadvantaged to access out of school time activities, clubs and events.
Application forms will be available in schools and other outlets during May. A downloadable form is available via the link below(please print and cut to size). The deadline is 31st May for completed forms, to be signed and returned by parents or carers.
