Stay safe and make sure that you are going home from your christmas party in a licensed taxi. This is the message from Rushmoor Borough Council as residents get ready to celebrate Christmas.
Rushmoor Taxis welcome the Council run campaign for the safety over the festive party season. The council’s ‘Who’s taking you home tonight?’ campaign highlights ways customers can check that the taxi or private hire vehicle they get into and also the driver is licensed.
A licensed vehicle will normally display a licence plate either on the front or the rear of the vehicle which will show the licensing authority and vehicle registration number. A licensed driver will also wear or display an identity badge, which will show the driver’s licence number and licensing authority details.
The council’s advice to residents is not to use a taxi or private hire vehicle if the driver does not seem to know the area or if the vehicle seems too old to be used as a taxi. Customers should always sit in the back of the vehicle and if they feel uneasy for any reason they should take note of the licence plate and report it to Rushmoor Borough Council’s licensing team on 01252 398 885 or email licensing@rushmoor.gov.uk
Councillor Stephen Masterson, Cabinet Member for Safety and Regulation at Rushmoor Borough Council, said: “It is our duty to ensure that members of the public are safe in our licensed taxis. With Christmas upon us and New Year only round the corner, more of our residents will be using taxis and private hire vehicles, and we want them to make sure that the cab they are using is a licensed one.”
