Last Orders’ is a thought provoking play that is currently touring secondary schools in Aldershot and Farnborough.  Aimed at year 9 pupils (aged 12 and 13) and performed by the Solomon Theatre Group, the play highlights the challenges encountered by some teenagers who find themselves dealing with pressure from friends, and their first experiences of alcohol. The play is organised by Rushmoor Borough Council and the Police at the Princes Hall in Aldershot on Wednesday 6 April at 7pm.

This is the second year that the Council has run the scheme in schools.  Last year, it contributed towards a reduction in anti-social behaviour involving young people and alcohol in the borough’s parks and open spaces.

There will also be an opportunity for parents to talk to representatives from Rushmoor Borough Council, the Police, health services, Connexions, local schools Hampshire Trading Standards and to get advice from these organisations.

Moray Henderson, Anti-Social Behaviour Co-ordinator at Rushmoor Borough Council said: “Alcohol affects people in different ways and sometimes young people’s natural exuberance can lead to inappropriate behaviour. At the age of 12 or 13, teenagers still look to their parents for information and guidance.  The event offers parents a chance to see the play for themselves and to give them the knowledge to talk to their children.  They will also be able to talk to our panel of experts about safety issues and find out about some of the support that is available for both parents and young people.”

The event is part of the Council’s ‘Stay Safe’ campaign to tackle anti-social behaviour in the summer months.

Moray added: “We will also be working with the Rushmoor Youth Support Service to visit local parks and open spaces on Friday evenings throughout the summer to engage with young people and the police will also be increasing their patrols.”
