The grants, from the Council’s Grants to Voluntary Organisations Fund, were agreed at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday (23) following applications from groups in the area. The money, totalling £6,750, has been granted to nine organisations, including Elim Pentecostal Church, the Rushmoor In Bloom Forum, 457 Air Cadets Squadron and Wavell School.

The Elim Pentecostal Church, in Aldershot was awarded £500 to help make the building accessible for disabled people, including ramps and new toilets. 457 Air Cadets Squadron, based in Farnborough, received £1,000 towards the cost of purchasing a new mini bus, and the Rushmoor In Bloom Forum was awarded £250 as a contribution for a photo exhibition at the Gardens Museum in London and the West End Centre in Aldershot. Wavell School was also granted £500 towards the cost of a plinth for a bronze statue designed by an ex-pupil to celebrate the school’s 40th anniversary.

The Cabinet also awarded Aldershot Farnham and District Athletics Club £2,000 towards the group’s continued participation in events, the cost of hiring the Military Stadium for sessions and the cost of transport.

Councillor Charles Choudhary, Cabinet Member for Concessions and Community Support at Rushmoor Borough Council, said: “Most voluntary organisations in the borough rely on fundraising, and this fund allows us to help them a little more. We are very pleased that we can support local groups who have a large impact on local people.”

Groups and voluntary organisations can apply for a grant from the Council’s Grants to Voluntary Organisations Fund, online at www.rushmoor.gov.uk/grants.
