Local swimmers over 60 and children 16 and under will be able to take advantage of free swimming over the summer holidays thanks to Rushmoor Borough Council and DC Leisure.

The decision, agreed at the Council’s Cabinet last week, will allow over 60s and children 16 and under in Rushmoor to carry on swimming for free until September 5, after the Government’s current scheme ends in July.

Local people who qualify for the scheme can register for £2, cheaper than a single child or senior citizen swimming session, at either Farnborough Leisure Centre or Aldershot Indoor Pools and can then swim for free as often as they like during general swimming sessions.

Councillor Diane Bedford, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Youth at Rushmoor Borough Council said:” We are delighted to be able to continue free swimming for children 16 and under and over 60s in Rushmoor until September. With the school holidays nearly upon us, we felt it was important to give youngsters in particular the chance to swim for free during the summer.”

The Council will offer free swimming to under 8s with every full paying adult from 5th September 2010.

Younger swimmers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when they register for the Free Swimming Scheme. If the child is 14 to 16, proof of age is required such as a birth certificate or passport.
