The Conservatives have retained their hold over Aldershot and Farnborough in a convincing win of over 5,000 votes.
Yesterday's election saw Tory MP, Gerald Howarth, being returned as the constituency's MP, with results that showed barely any movement in the political fortunes of the main parties since 2005.
46.7% of Aldershot and Farnborough's voting public showed their support for the Conservatives. 34.4% voted for the Liberal Democrats, while only 12.1% backed Labour.
Mr Howarth was 'delighted' to be returned as the MP for Aldershot and Farnborough, but had to admit that with recent 'Cleggmania' and the criticism he endured over the recent expenses scandal, the result was far from a certainty.
However, despite many anticipating a swing in the Liberal Democrats' favour, the party's candidate, Adrian Collett, was unable to cut the 5,000 vote gap between Mr Howarth and himself.
The constituency of Aldershot, which includes Farnborough, has remained Conservative since it was first created nearly 100 years ago.
Council elections
The Conservatives strengthened their lead in Rushmoor and now have 29 councillors on the council.
Not only did the Tories take a seat from the Liberal Democrats in Farnborough, they also reclaimed the seat that went to the UK Independence Party when former Conservative, Eddie Poole defected in 2009.
Labour and the Lib Dems have 6 seats each.
In Hart, the Conservatives finally managed to regain control in an area where they had previously had to rely on the support of Independent councillors to have a working majority.
They were able to secure another three seats at the expense of two Independent candidates and a Community Campaign Hart candidate.
