'Mamma Mia' director Phyllida Lloyd gives us a surprising and intimate portrait of Britain's first and only UK female PM: Margaret Thatcher (Meryl Streep). One of the 20th century's most influential women, Thatcher came from nowhere, smashing through barriers of gender and class and making herself heard in a male dominated world. The original screenplay by rising star Abi Morgan (screenwriter 'Shame' pg 8, and TV's 'The Hour') concerns power and the price that is paid for power, and is an insightful portrait of an extraordinary and complex woman.
