Welcome to The Old Brewery
On the site of the Maclays Thistle Brewery, which dates back from 1870, The Old Brewery reflects the tradition and repute of Alloa's brewing heritage, mixes it with a more contemporary setting, giving it an altogether unique blend of old and new. Located centrally in Alloa, the Old Brewery looks over towards the historic Alloa Tower, and is a great starting point to discovering the delights of The Wee County.
As you enter the pub you will find yourself standing in the former courtyard of the brewery which is now thankfully sheltered from the elements, making The Old Brewery impressive in its size. The interior of the Old Brewery unashamedly pays tribute to its previous use: exposed brickwork complement the heavy cast iron girders lending the interior an authentic reminder of the past.
This is further reflected in the original well from which the brewery used to source its all-important water. The well is no longer full, but look carefully and you can still see a reflection of an inquisitive face! To the right you will find our delightful courtyard which is used by smokers and non-smokers alike and ahead, take the iron staircase to our comfortable mezzanine level.
With a heritage of Brewing, you would expect the Old Brewery to have a good selection of beers and it doesn't disappoint. Belhaven Best and Guinness are available chilled and regular, meanwhile, those with a thirst for a draught lager can choose from Tennents, Stella Artois, Carlsberg, Estrella Damm, Peroni and Red Stripe. Cider drinkers can enjoy an ice cold Strongbow or alternatively choose from bottled Magners, Bulmers or Kopparberg.
There is also a world wide range of bottled beers from The States, through Europe, to The Far East. Still thirsty? An extensive wine selection provides a good match for the popular malt whisky selection, all displayed on a stunning illuminated gantry with its enormous swept frame mirror in its centre.
