The Maynard School’s U15 basketball team competed in the National Schools Basketball Finals last weekend and has been placed fourth in the UK.

The Maynard squad, who beat stiff competition last month to become the winner for the south region, went up against teams from Priestnall School in Greater Manchester (north region winners), Shenfield High School in Essex (central region winners) and Greig City Academy in London (London region winners). The girls lost to Priestnall School and Shenfield High and were placed fourth in the UK.

PE teacher Sandra Wood said ‘Being placed as the fourth best U15 basketball team in the UK is an absolutely fantastic achievement. The competition from the other three regional winners was exceptionally high, and the type of basketball played was a bit more cut-throat than the girls are used to! They played outstandingly and fought for their place to the end. I am so proud of all the girls that took part.’
