Tesco's persistance pays off!
A newTesco Express petrol station planned for Cheltenham Road, in Evesham, looks likely to become a reality soon after Wychavon district councillors approved plans for the development today.
At the Development Control Committee meeting at the Wychavon Civic Centre in Pershore, some councillors reluctantly agreed to pass the application after it was revealed critical objections to it had been withdrawn since it was last submitted by Esso Petroleum, the current occupier.
The decision to support the application was only taken after a motion to refuse it was first defeated.
Evesham town councillor Roma Kirke, who voted against the application, said: “This is just the cynical, creeping ambition of big business and I don’t much care for these type of applications.”
My comment is that I hope that The Blueburd Post Office and Stores can continue to survive after this new store opens. Why do councillors (in the main) allow the retail giants to win?
