We had the most enjoyable Tap Dancing for adult beginners workshop last Sunday. 10 ladies donned their tap shoes and I took them on a journey of shuffles, paddles, triples and timesteps and ended their session with a short routine using the steps we had learnt that morning. They were exhausted both mentally and physically but in a great way and I know they went home wishing they could do it all again the following week. There's something fascinating about the sound of tap and it's a wonderful feeling when you learn how to make those sounds and rhythms. You can learn one step, simply change the rhythm and you have another!
Tap is steeped in history and has many styles from Fred Astaire to Tap Dogs. Some tap is done with lots of choreographed movement and then there is the impromptu street style with almost on the spot rhythm changes. Timesteps are used in abundance starting with a basic and then adding taps until a fantastic, intricate sound is made.
If you haven't tried it, you haven't lived!
The next workshop is April 10th so contact me if you would like to join us.
