Sleep plays a major part in our health and wellbeing. It is when we sleep that the body and mind rejuvenates itself. Adequate sleep is vital to keep us mentally alert, able to cope with tasks and learning new skills. It is also crucial in maintaining energy levels and a healthy weight.
When we exercise we fatigue and slightly damage our muscles. It is when we rest that our bodies repair themselves and get stronger. If we over – train and don’t factor in rest and recovery we are actually hindering our own bodies and will either not get the benefits of exercise or actually make ourselves unwell. Rest is just as important as the exercise itself.
Though diet and exercise are obviously very important in a healthy lifestyle, it’s important to factor in the proper amount of sleep each night as well. This will help us to have the energy to cope with all of our daily work routines and leisure activities as well as our exercise routines. Quality sleep will help with fitness, good eating and good health.
