Tarana, in Turners Hill, is the latest creation of Shah Koreshi, owner of the hugely popular Bengal Village restaurant in Lingfield. Following on from his subsequent ventures in Lingfield and Forest Row, Tarana has made its mark after only seven months of operation by winning a coveted award in the food industry.

At the recent 49th annual Bangladeshi Catering Association Awards Dinner in central London, Tarana won the ‘Best Restaurant 2009 Award’ ( South East Region).

The UK has over 12000 Bangladeshi Restaurants and there is stiff competition for recognition in these Awards, particularly in the South East. The award judges visited unannounced and were impressed by both the food and service.

The Awards dinner was attended by over 600 guests at the Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel in London.  The guest of honour was Secretary of State for International Development, Right Honourable Douglas Alexander MP. A Video Message was sent by the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, and David Cameron MP also sent a letter of support to the event.

Shah Koreshi received the Best Restaurant and Caterer award from Cllr Mr Lutfor RAHAM Leader of Tower Hamlets Council and Mr Sanjiva Rishi, Chief Operations Officer for Kohinoor, sponsors of the award.

Shah was overwhelmed with his award and said ....

"I cannot tell you how grateful I am to receive this award, both for myself and everyone at Tarana. We have all worked very hard to make the restaurant what it is and it is fantastic that the BCA have recognised our efforts in this way. It has not been an easy journey, and I would not have been able to do this without the help and support of my family, brothers, the staff at Tarana, and last but not least our Customers. I am looking forward now to 2010 and hope to make it an even better year."

Anyone who knows the popular Bengal Village restaurant will not be a bit surprised that the new restaurant has been recognised in this way. Tarana is already fully booked on most Fridays and Saturdays.
