I am a regular visitor to Grub, the excellent cafe bar on the corner of London Road and Railway Approach. The owner, Steven Price has established his family run cafe-bar as a real gem of a meeting place, serving simple, delicious food made from good quality local produce. He prides himself on using fresh products free from additives, preservatives or flavourings, and recreating the quality of home cooked food.
In the evening Grub transforms into a unique venue in the town centre. The cafe-bar is brought alive on Saturday nights with acoustic live music every week. Admission is free and the 'unplugged' atmosphere has proved extremely popular with local music lovers. Twice a month open-mic sessions provide a platform for local singer songwriters to showcase their talent.
Grub is also a popular party venue and its adaptable space provides an intimate venue for parties of up to 50 people, for birthdays, corporate functions or even weddings.
Steven is not afraid to try something new and recently held a sell out theatre production and a charity quiz night. He is always open to new ideas and has found the town is not as conservative as people think!!
Grub offers an excellent local alternative to the national coffee bar brands and the ice cream there is to die for!!
