Dunnings Mill Squash and Health Club, in Dunnings Road, was closed in July 2008 for residential development after thirty successful years as the principal home of squash in the town. A new club, Dunnings Squash and Racketball Club (DSRC) has been founded by its members to secure a future for participation in squash and racketball at new facilities in East Grinstead.
For the immediate future, and to keep the playing side of the club together DSRC have made short term arrangements with the local authority leisure centres in the area.
To provide a future for the players, to continue their record of competitive success and develop participation in both sports, a new club, formed by the members, will take squash and racketball forward in the area. A group of members of the new Dunnings Squash & Racketball Club are well advanced on their project to establish new facilities for squash and racketball, as an extension to those already available at East Grinstead Sports Club at Saint Hill.
Planning permission has been obtained for four new courts at the Sports Club and fund raising is under way, with the intention that the facilities will be ready for use in the summer of 2010. With the likelihood of financial support from the Town Council, the District Council, their sport’s governing body and the developer of the old Dunnings Road site, the club is well on the way to achieving a new home. Further support locally is being sought to secure the project and the future for the development of these two popular sports in the East Ginstead area.
