How do you choose the right photographer for your wedding?

There is a huge difference between a professional and amateur photographer.

Be wary of picking a part-time or unqualified wedding photographer: although cheaper you may not get the results you expected.

Check credentials (qualifications, awards etc.), their portfolio and client testimonials.

Questions to ask your photographer:

  • What is your primary style - posed and formal, photojournalistic, candid, creative, artistic, relaxed?
  • Can you shoot in black and white? Do you shoot in a digital format and create both black and white and colour versions of the same picture?
  • How many photos will I get and how many copies? Will you do a photobook?
  • Do you charge by the hour and what are the extra charges if the event lasts longer than planned?
  • Do you need any refreshments?
  • How many times have you worked specifically as a wedding photographer? How many of these events were similar to the size and formality of our wedding?
  • What kind of equipment will you bring? How intrusive will it be?

It's important to pick a photographer who has inspirational ideas, pays great attention to detail and is devoted to their job.
