Our Annual Trip To Durham is never complete without a trip to Brambles Coffee Shop just outside the City Centre next to the River Wear. This year we were amazed to see how many customers this place attracts. The popularity has shot through the roof and we counted no less than 90 people in at one time with empty tables being snapped up like hot cakes.
Yet again the staff were curteous, polite, and always smiling. I do think these staff members must go through some sort of rigorous training as they never put a foot wrong.

An absolute gem of a garden centre... must visit!

Superb new Farm shop or Food Hall as they call it at Poplar Tree Garden Centre Durham. Now they have a full time butcher I have no need to go to a supermarket anymore.

Brambles is a great place to visit. The goodies are all freshly prepared and they use local suppliers where possible. It's a comfortable, clean and suitable for all the family. It's a great unhurried meeting place where the staff are always helpful and friendly.

A wonderful place to have a light lunch or meet friends over delicious sweets and freshly made scones. The cappucinos and lattes are the best in Durham and when the weather is fine you can enjoy them sitting outside in the natural suntrap. Who needs foreign holidays when you can have coffee at Brambles.

It is a real treat to go to the Brambles Coffee Shop and enjoy a wide selection of home made cakes and special sandwiches and pies. In fact it can be difficult to choose what to have! There are tables and chairs outside, some with sunshades where you can relax in the sun and the fresh air and there is plenty of seating inside. Access from inside the garden centre is by a ramp making it good for pushchairs and wheelchairs. Toilets are spotless. There are usually nice paintings on the walls to buy or just to admire while you wait for your food to arrive. There is plenty of parking but the access road is rather narrow at one point - don't let that put you off, just be aware!

We love Poplar Tree because it is a proper garden centre not just an extension of a DIY store. It's reasonably priced and the staff know what they are talking about. I would definitely recommend it and the coffee shop is great too!

Brambles is one of Durham's best kept secrets and there isn't a better place to sit outside and have lunch on a summers day amongst the flowers and plants. The staff are really friendly and the food is good yet inexpensive.
