Mencap

The Voice of Learning Disability

Covering the Durham region.

Mencap is the leading UK charitable organisation working with people with a learning disability, their families and carers.
Mencap campaigns on key issues to help ensure that people with a learning disability and their families and carers get equal rights and better opportunities. As a charity we are here to fight for a world where people in the North East with a learning disability are able to:

  • Have as much independence as possible;
  • Find decent, well-paid employment to suit their skills and abilities, or have interesting, meaningful activities to do if they can't work;
  • Take part in community activities;
  • Live in a home that meets their needs, with the right support.

There are 1.2 million people with a learning disability in the UK and over 52,000 people of this with a learning disability in the North East.

You will find further details on our website www.mencap.org.uk

Mencap's Fundraising team in the North East put on various events across the year to help raise funds and create awareness for Mencap.
