HAS DUNDEE DISPLAYED TITIAN PAINTING TO BEST EFFECT?

The McManus Galleries in Dundee have the honour of displaying the spectacular Titian painting "DIANA AND ACTAEON"

The £50 million painting is on loan to the Dundee Gallery for the next 3 weeks.

Having visited the gallery on the first day it was encouraging to see so many people interested in coming to see this historic masterpiece on its visit to Dundee.

However, the lighting and siting of the painting made it extremely difficult to look at properly as light reflection did not allow either a longer or close-up view to discern the nuances and detail within the fine detail of the painting.

I needed to look at a photograph in one of the many reference books available to find the tiny detail of Diana hunting and the deer skins over the tree branch!

Did YOU spot that detail?

Well worth a visit to the  McManus Gallery which has been refurbished to an excellent standard, with all areas interesting and well laid out and a great coffee shop for after the visit!

If V & A to be in Dundee we have to get it right!!
