It is not very often that you get the opportunity to discuss Medieval Longbows with the experts but this coming Bank Holiday brings just this chance with a wealth of archery skills from times past at Lulworth Castle.
Medieval Archers ‘Wolfshead Bowmen’ will base their colourful living encampment in front of the Castle on Sun 28th and Mon 29th May and will be inviting visitors to learn more about the medieval way of life. The power of the longbow, crossbow and ballista siege weapon will be demonstrated with archery muster, talks and displays throughout their stay.
With appearances on television productions ‘Ivanhoe’ & ‘What History has done for us’ (BBC), ‘Time Tourists’ (Meridian) and ‘The Dark Ages’ (Channel 4), Wolfshead Bowmen are authentically costumed archers committed to the promotion of the English Longbow – the backbone of the English armies during the late medieval period. Full of humour, fun and historical accuracy, they delight audiences with their ingenuity, skills and archery prowess.
‘We are delighted Wolfshead Bowmen are coming to demonstrate their skills at Lulworth Castle” said James Weld, General Manager, Lulworth Estate. He continued, “ Whether you glimpse at life gone by in the colourful tents of their Living Encampment, enjoy talks and demonstrations on a variety of crafts such as bow making, fletching, weaving, or smithery this promises to be a lively and entertaining Bank Holiday at Lulworth Castle”.
And a Grand National Archery Society Coach will be on hand to offer one to one ‘have a go’ archery sessions with an authentic medieval longbow (cost £1.00 for 5 arrows).
