A little bit of history...
The Casterbridge is a Georgian house with a concealed courtyard annexe.
It is a comfortable and relaxed haven yet still close to the bustling streets of historic Dorchester.
There are many restaurants and cafes nearby and the hotel is conveniently located for visitors to the centre of the town.
The Casterbridge has been a guest house since the 1930s, although it was not until 1981 that the third generation of the Turner family extensively modernised the building.
This led to us being recognised in the Good Hotel Guide, the WHICH hotel guide, Michelin, Lonely Plant, Frommer, Berlitz and Charming Small Hotels.
The hotel was taken over around a year ago by Melvin and Monica Curtis who between them have around 30 years' experience in the hospitality industry.
We are open throughout the year apart from Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Bed and breakfast accommodation
All our rooms have:

Some of our rooms are Georgian style and have four poster beds - others are nestled in the attic and are cosy and peaceful.
Our ground floor rooms are modern and some have their own private patio.
The family room sleeps two people in the main room and a further two or three in bunk beds in the connecting room. There is also an extra TV and a fridge.
We can arrange wheelchair access - please just tell us your requirements when you book.

We provide a superb breakfast, served in the dining room or conservatory.
Choose from a selection of healthy fruits, yoghurts or porridge or indulge yourself in the full English breakfast. We also serve home made marmalade with croissants and muffins and we can cook haddock or kippers on request.

Within 30 minutes of Dorchester is some of the most beautiful natural scenery in the world, including the Jurassic Coast, the Cerne Valley, Minterne Magna, Shaftesbury and Chesil Beach.
You could also visit Weymouth and Abbotsbury - and take a look at Prince Charles' model village of Poundbury!
And of course, Dorchester itself has its own special attractions and most are within easy walking distance. Many of our guests enjoy visiting Thomas Hardy's cottage and the lovely villages of Higher and Lower Bockhampton.
