Proud of Pride Park

Was it a good match or not-who cares?

How often do you get a chance to see one of the world's best teams playing at Pride Park?

I know, I know, every week. But I'm talking about national teams here.

I use the google alerts service to send me a daily summary of relevent new web content, and a few days ago it popped up the announcement that the international friendly would be held in Derby.

Well spotted on my behalf amongst all the other football stories, as you can imagine, the search term "derby" brings a lot of sports results back.

I was on the phone straight away and got us tickets a few rows behind the Brazil bench, a great view of the players coming on and off the field, and close up to Robinho in the first half, and Daniel Alves in the second. We were also just in front of the Ram's Robbie Savage who was presenting for ESPN on the night.

Both teams brought a noisy contingent of fans with them, making for a great atmosphere in the less-than-full Pride Park. We were fortunate to be in front of a row of Brazilians, and picked up a few words of Portuguese. I'm sure "SHOOTA!" will come in handy one day.

A great night for the city, and proof that we have a truly international standard stadium at our heart.

I hope Nigel Clough was there with his chequebook.
