WORKING TOGETHER FOR THE FUTURE OF DEAL
A key meeting took place on Thursday (19 March) to discuss promoting the unique attractions of Deal Town Centre, and the quality of its restaurants and hotels, during these difficult times. The meeting between representatives of Deal Town Council, Deal Chamber of Trade and Dover District Council looked at packaging together a range of opportunities to boost Deal business.
This included event opportunities, promoting the town and its attractions, visual art displays, making vacant shop fronts more attractive, and promoting the variety of free car parking spaces and public car park options.
There were very positive messages of cooperation from all parties, and a willingness to all work together to boost business for the town during the current economic climate. The meeting also covered further business support measures, that a later meeting will review, and recognised the role of business in assessing financial hardship support.
Peter Varrall, Chairman of Deal and Walmer Chamber of Trade said: "It is essential that all Deal Traders now work with us to take advantage of the very positive and unique opportunities available to them in partnership with local and District Councils. We must talk our town up and send out a positive message to attract visitors and businesses to Deal and Walmer so that it can evolve and prosper. Income from tourism directly and indirectly benefits all local businesses. We invite all local traders to the Chamber AGM on Friday 24 April 7pm to hear more about this and become part of the future of this town."
Cllr Bill Gardner, Mayor of Deal said: "I was very happy with the positive tone of the meeting and hope that this will continue at future meetings as it is for the good of all the town, and l look forward to working with DDC and the Chamber of Trade to help promote this wonderful town of ours."
Cllr Paul Watkins, Leader of Dover District Council: "The outcome of this initial meeting showed very positive signs to deliver opportunities to promote Deal and its unique nature as a destination. I would like to pay tribute to the Chamber of Trade and Town Council in agreeing to come into partnership to explore new measures for the future."
