In the Summer I love to sit out the front of the pub smelling the sea air, and in the Winter I am happy to be all cosy inside. Always happy to have a drink here.

Great location no doubt, but on a rainy night in October we didnʼt get the benefit of the view. We ate at the Zetland on three evenings during our five night stay because the first experience was so good we wanted to try it all. The fish is truly fresh - you can really taste the sea. The Dover Sole in particular was superb - but even ʼplainʼ cod and chps was an experience not to be missed. I can also strongly reccommned the Piri Piri prawns. Lesley D should definitely try it again - I can only assume that you enjoyed the view so much that you kept your food waiting too long! For anyone else, f youʼre in the area, this is an experience worth seeking out.
We didnʼt meet the landlord, but our thanks to the chef, staff and ʼregularsʼ for their freindly welcome, good service and exceptional food. We look forward to seeing you again - perhaps at a time when we can also enjoy the view.

Your correspondent Lesley D must have hit the Zetland Arms on an ʼoff dayʼ -- or been overly impatient. (This is a laid-back corner of the world, which is what makes it so special.) The Zetland Arms has been reknowned for food, drink and conviviality ever since charismatic landlord Tim Cobbett took over the uniquely located pub 30 years ago. Recently the London Evening Standard praised it as the source of some of the best seafood in South-East England. They were right. So give it another try, Lesley. (The Zetʼs Dover sole or Piri Piri Prawns is no ordinary ʼpub grubʼ!)

It was lovely at Kingsdown today and The Zetland Arms was a fine place to have lunch. We sat outside under a sun shade and looked out across the water. The food was very good - lots of lovely seafood - crab, whitebait, scampi, cod and chips all were nicely cooked and very fresh. I recommend it.
