Deal Saint-Omer Twinning Society Information

The Twinning Society in Deal tries to foster links between the two communities; for example sporting links between groups of younger people or cultural links between groups of the older (but young at heart!) members.

Each year members of the Association du Jumelage in Saint- Omer come and stay with their partner families in Deal for a weekend and vice versa. These weekends take place in June and September and usually alternate each year as to the venue. They are great opportunities to renew and develop friendships and get to know the attractions of East Kent and the Audomarois.

Last year Deal was invited to send a delegation to the 40th Anniversary of the Saint-Omer-Detmold twinning in August, the focus of which was Community and Sustainable Development in the EU. This was the occasion to put out a call for local produce and publicity material with the Best of Deal and Dover. Many thanks for your responses! The local produce on offer on our stand in the European Market on the Saturday also generated a contact with the European Centre for 'Slow Food' being set up in Strasbourg who were looking for an English region to work with; they have been put in touch with the 'Kent Farmers' Markets Association'.

The Deal Saint-Omer Twinning Society has other fund-raising and social events during the year and the Society always welcomes new members.
