The Deal Memorial Bandstand is host to a variety of outstanding musicians on Sundays in the summer months attracting many visitors from the nearby Dover and Sandwich area to picnic on Walmer green and enjoy the band.
The Deal Memorial Bandstand stands upon Walmer Green on Deal Seafront, close to the Dover and Sandwich area of Kent over looking the English channel with views of the French Coastline when the weather is clear. It was built in 1992 as a memorial to the eleven Royal Marine Bandsmen who tragically lost their lives as a result of the bombing of their barracks on 22nd September 1989.The twelve sided structure have engraved plaques bearing the eleven names of the talented musicians who lost their lives.
Free Concerts, Free Seat, Free Programme - what more could you ask?
Every Summer on Sunday afternoons at 2.30pm from May to September the bandstand hosts a fine programme of free live music concerts.These are funded by donations from those attending the concerts and all visitors who can spare donations are asked to give generously so that the superb quality, live music events can continue to be organised as a tourist attraction for the Deal area.
The Deal Memeorial Bandstand is a registered charity run by Ex Royal Marine Musicians dedicated to providing top quality Kentish Brass or big ( swing ) bands to entertain locals and visitors to Deal from the Dover and Sandwich area, east Kent and beyond.
The Walmer Green in Deal , is perfect for picnics and visitors attending the live music concerts from the neighbouring Dover and Sandwich areas and beyond make an occasion of it by bringing their picnics, chairs, blankets etc for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoons entertainment ,and all for free!
There is a specially designated area for disabled visitors and information can be obtained by contacting the Band Stand Trust.
Deal Memorial Bandstand is situated next to the Deal Life boat station looking out to the straits of Dover and is close to other family friendly tourist attractions such as the children's padding pool, bouncy castle and crazy golf. Other famous tourist attractions are Deal and Walmer castles, situated to the east and west of Deals memorial Bandstand and the Time Ball Tower overlooking Deal's Pier.
Every Sunday Afternoon at 2.30pm from May until September you will be guaranteed free concerts , free seating and a free programme of summer live music concerts when you visit the Deal Memorial Bandstand.
All Concerts are supported by public donation so please give generously when the collecting buckets are passed round as the live music concerts are a real asset to the town and tribute to the Royal Marines Bandsmen ,a tradition which the Bandstand Trust hopes to continue for many years to come.
