Park cafe: a waste of space?

Bookmark and Share

What a great place the cafe in South Park could be. A bit of hard work and imagination would attract more visitors to what is already a popular park.

Why does the cafe only open daily in the summer and not at all in winter? Even when it is open the hours are short. Many parks around the country have well-run cafes that offer home cooked food, all day, throughout the year. People actually go to these parks for the experience of visiting a well-run eating place in an attractive setting.

There must be people with catering experience that would like the chance to make the idea work, so why doesn't the council give it a go? Home made soup and other tasty treats, plus good coffee and cakes, would attract visitors from across the region all year round, and make the park even more popular as a meeting place for all age groups.

At the moment the cafe is an under-used resource and a waste of what could be a vibrant, useful and talked about visitor attraction.
