Could a new firm move into the old Woolworths store in Darlington soon?
Shoppers had their hopes raised lately when they saw workmen busy in the premises. They were dismantling the display racks and other fittings. Asked if the shop might be reopened in the near future, one of the workmen stated: "I don't know for sure, but somebody is interested in the property."
If the store comes back into use it will be excellent news for other traders in the Northgate and Bondgate area of the town. That locality has suffered somewhat since Woolies closed, especially with a large part of the King's Head Hotel still covered up following its fire. Several other Woolworths stores around the country have already come back into use. The one in Barnard Castle has become a Heron chilled food outlet.
