I read a lovely story in the Croydon Guardian this week, which makes a nice change to some of the more dramatic and macabre news of late. Nursing home resident Alice Smith, who has reached her centennial year, has found a treasure trove of collectibles in a loft-rummage. Once a prolific theatre-goer, Alice collected hundreds of theatre programmes since her first show in 1926. It's lovely to see her passion has been recognised; the Croydon Operatic and Dramatic
Association is very interested in the collection, especially as many of the programmes were from shows at Croydon theatres.
Alice apparently been invited to be guest of honour at the Old Time Music Hall show on April 24th, at the Old Palace of John Whitgift School. I for one hope she has a lovely time reminiscing and being the centre of attention for a while.
