Stephanie Schober & Dance Company : Traffic
Tues 14th Feb : 7.30pm
Axis Dance : £8 (£5 concs)
Stephanie Schober's new choreography TRAFFIC features live music created and performed by accordionist Camilla Barratt-Due. Dancers Keir Patrick and Lise Manavit join her for an intensely physical performance that explores the expressive potential of movement and sound in truly unconventional ways. Traffic is inspired by composer Tom Johnson's minimalist piano piece Abundant Numbers based on mathematical themes, and features lighting design by Jackie Shemesh.
The performers interpret the composition through their own movement and sound, using three accordions, chairs and a piece of glass played by hands. They explore the logical structure as a framework to share their materials and to negotiate and navigate their pathways and rhythms. The result is a myriad of fragmented human expressions leading to a sonic and visual chaos that falls back together into surprising new combinations.
