It's a fact of life that today, tomorrow, next week or next year, your child or a child you know will unfortunately need treatment in a high dependency childrens hospital unit. This happened recently to a friend's baby. Thankfully he was able to be treated and is making a good recovery at home with his mum and dad. Although his treatment was successful he had to be moved to a London hospital as the local hospital in Redhill did not have the facilities to provide him with the care he needed.
The Rockinghorse, the charity brings hope to families in challenging times, improving the quality of life for some of the most vulnerable children in the region, are trying to raise £45,000 so that a high dependency unit can be built in Outwood Ward, the children's ward at East Surrey Hospital, Redhill. The Rockinghorse unit will be for children who require more intensive observation, treatment or nursing care than can be provided normally, but who don't need full intensive care treatment.
They need to raise the money for the building works, monitors for blood, heart-rate, and breathing; syringe pumps; CPAP machines for ventilation; and glucose monitors to detect blood sugar levels. The charity also wants to provide the unit with a specialised bed that meets all of the infection control standards, and a specialised cot for younger children.
To this end the Plough Inn, Dormansland are hosting a fund raising event in aid of the Rockinghorse charity on 19th September at The Plough, Dormansland. There is going to be a hog and lamb roast, BBQ as well a champagne tent, and face painting & games for the children. There will also be an auction during the day to help raise much needed funds for the charity. It starts at 12:00 and the charity auction will be taking place at 3:00.
