Dementia Cafe
Every 4th Monday of the month, 10.am to 12 noon
Beanfield Community Centre
The Dementia Cafes were started in 1997 by Dr Bere Miesen (Psycholigist) in the NEtherlands. When Dr Miesen met people with dementia and their families, talking about the illness even between partners was often taboo. Dr Miesen decided that it would be good if all those involved could meet each other in a relaxed forum, talk about dementia and share their experience and concerns. By talking about the problems that having dementia brings, a person and their family can better manage siutations.
The Cafe will be held on a monthly basis and provides a chance to spend a few hours with supportive people in a relaxed social setting. Each month there will be a guest speaker to give a tlk on a wide range of topics.
There will also be free refreshments and, time permitting, a fun activity.
