What makes Colwyn Bay stand out from surrounding towns is the large number of well established family businesses. As membership secretary for Colwyn Chamber of Trade that has itself been established since 1948, I have been involved in identifying some of the great family businesses that have been established in Colwyn Bay for over thirty years. The idea was initiated by the President Mrs. Matthews who wished to recognize
these great family businesses. All businesses that fit the criteria will be awarded with a certificate at a special meeting of the Chamber of Trade on Wednesday, 26th November 2008 at 6pm at the Town Hall in Rhiw Road.
Whilst out and about this week I have identified two further businesses that have been trading for over 30 years. Philip's Hairdressers in Rhos on Sea began trading in 1965. Today I visited Jeff Pritchard of Colwyn Bay Motorcycles to discuss his membership renewal of The Best of Colwyn Bay and I discovered that he started trading in Colwyn Bay in 1978 making his business thirty years old this year. Todate we have one
business which is over 100 years old, Arundales Greengrocers, five businesses which are between 75 and 99 years, five businesses which are between 50 and 74 years, and now a further fifteen businesses which are over 30 years.
Businesses over 50 years old will be awarded with a fantastic commemorative framed certificate produced by Inner Frame and those over 30 years old will be awarded with a specially designed certificate kindly created and donated by Powlsons Printers.
