Four week course - Chelmsford Our short 4-week courses, one evening per week, are designed for anyone who would like to get to know a particular country or region in more depth. Sometimes we compare different regions to appreciate and contrast their typical styles of wine: alternatively, we take a closer look at the diversity of wines from specific parts of the world. Each week we will also use the brilliant Nez Du Vin to help us understand the aromas found in wine. These courses are suitable for all levels of knowledge, even the absolute beginner. Always friendly and informal, they are a great way of meeting like minded wine lovers. COURSE FEE STRUCTURE The cost of the four week course is £90. To help spread out the cost we ask for an initial payment of £50, then £10 in cash payable each evening. Still great value! Less than £23 per evening. Each week can be booked separately. An Introduction to Wine - 12th May - £25 - We will look at how white and red wine is made, how vineyard management, winery practices and maturation can impact on the finished wine and how to taste wine like a professional. The evening is fun, interesting and NEVER pretentious! White Wines - 19th May - £25 - We will look at some of the crisp, fresh and zesty as well as smooth, round and succulent white wines of the world. We will compare a Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire with one from New Zealand and ask why are they so different? We will also look at some wines made from grape varieties you may not have come across before. Red Wines - 26th May - £25 - Just reds, light reds, rich reds, powerful reds, smooth reds, lively reds, fruity reds, dense dark reds, ripe reds. Come and discover brilliant new red vareties that you may not have tasted before, along side more familiar examples of wines you know and love. Also we look at how different maturation practices impact on the wines. Sparkling wine evening - 2nd June - £30 - always a popular event, this is an opportunity to taste high quality Champagne and compare it to some of the best sparkling wines coming from cool-climate regions around the World, togther with scintillating Cava and impecable Prosecco. The price for all the one evening wine tastings includes a minimum of six wines, tasting notes on the selected wines and a tutored tasting with digital projection equipment and course materials. There will also be some specially selected snacks to complement the wines. Professional ISO tasting glasses are provided. Look at what someone said about our four week course on Tripadvisor! Whisky NEW! Whisky Tasting - £40 Colchester - 24th June 7pm -9pm Chelmsford - 30th June 7pm-9pm If you love whisky as much as I do then this evening is just right for you! We will explore how whisky is made, why it sometimes is spelled whiskey, where it is made and why even Scottish malt whiskies can taste so different. We will be tasting seven whiskies in total; three from Scotland, one from Ireland, one from England and one from Japan. We will also try a blended grain whisky just to see the difference.The brilliant Jim Murray recently voted a Japanese whisky one of the best in the world, you have the opportunity to find out why tonight. Tickets for these events will make an ideal father's day present! Colchester evening tastings  Evening tastings at Memoirs Colchester Sparkling, Sweet & Fortified. 22nd April 7pm-9pm £30 These are wines where the craft of the wine maker is paramount: those bubbles and brioche flavours in a sparkling wine or the rich dried fruit and orange peel flavours in a sweet wine are not just the result of natural processes; they require a huge amount of effort and patience on the part of the wine maker. It is sure to be a fascinating and delicious evening! Germany, Alsace & Austria 29th April 7pm-9pm £25 Welcome to the World of Wines tasting on Alsace, Germany & Austria. These regions are producing some amazing wines from varieties such as Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Spätburgunder and Gruner Veltliner. Time to discover the aromatics of Europe! USA & South Africa 6th May 7pm-9pm £25 Join us for an evening of spectacular New World showstoppers! From South Africa come chunky, chocolatey reds, Pinotage, and elegant European-style whites from Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc. We will also ask what is the 'real' Californian wine? Tonight we will discover rich, strawberry-scented Zinfandel (the red wine, not the pink stuff!), earthy Pinot Noir and creamy soft Chardonnay. An evening not to be missed! It was a great day, much enjoyed by everybody. We started with a glass of Champagne and went on to taste twelve other wines and enjoyed a freshly prepared, delicious two course lunch.
