Sourcing freshly caught fish from local fishermen and renowned fish markets, local fishmongers, The Little Fish Company not only supplies direct to the catering trade in and around Colchester, but also owns The Little Fish Shop in Kelvedon that sells fresh fish and quality seafood to the general public.

Enjoy the freshest fish caught from local waters with The Little Fish Company...

Based in Kelvedon and owned by local fisherman, Philip Wright, and his partner Maria Nash, The Little Fish Company is a fish merchant with a difference. They offer their customers the freshest fish possible, sourced from local fishermen in local waters, quality markets and on occasion, caught by Phil himself on his boat, Cathy Anne off the coast of Essex.

The Little Fish Company supplies direct to local restaurants, hotels, gastropubs, hospitals and even a children's nursery. Customers include the prestigious Number Nine Restaurant on North Hill, Colchester, The Old Seige House in Colchester, The Angel Inn in Stoke-by-Nayland, The White Hart Inn in West Bergholt, Portofino in Colchester and the award winning Square & Compasses in Fairstead.

Locally caught fish includes:

  • Cod
  • Dover sole
  • Skate
  • Sea bass
  • Lobster

And because Phil sources fish caught from day boats, it is delivered to customers within 24 hours of landing.

"Traceability is incredibly important to me," Phil explains. "By sourcing the majority of our fish from local fishermen, I know exactly who catches our products and when, ensuring that our clients enjoy the freshest fish possible - practically from water to table!"

Fish and seafood is also sourced from Billingsgate and Lowestoft markets, whilst Peterhead in Scotland is the market of choice for fish from the north such as haddock, halibut and coley. Whenever possible, salmon is bought from Loch Duart, which farms active, lean and healthy fish that are as close to wild salmon as possible. Phil also visits the South Coast fishing ports regularly in order to source the local catch in that area, including Rye Bay scallops, plaice, turbot and brill.

The Little Fish Shop

The Little Fish Company started life in a small unit in Wivenhoe and it is a mark of the quality of the fish and the reputation Phil has built in the local area that it was decided to expand its premises to a larger building in Kelvedon. The Little Fish Shop opened its doors to the public at the front of the new premises in March 2011.

Run by Phil's partner, Maria Nash, The Little Fish Shop stocks a large range of the freshest fish and shellfish in the area, caught by local fishermen, Phil, or sourced from the finest suppliers. The fishmongers are also more than happy to scale, fillet, butterfly or steak your fish and even offer advice on the best way to cook it! Although Maria still follows her own career she can often be found working in the shop serving customers and preparing fish and seafood platters etc.

Are you planning a family celebration, party or romantic night in? Why not opt for a tasty seafood platter or dressed salmon to mark the occasion? The Little Fish Shop only needs a few hours notice so call today!

They're very good. Very reliable, one of few very good suppliers in the area. Have been working with them for a year and they always supply quality, fresh local fish.

I have been to this lovely little village shop to buy some local skate. There was so much choice with plenty of local, fresh fish. The friendly couple who run the shop prepared the fish and gave me lots of hints and tips for cooking! It was the best fish I've ever tasted!
