Headway Essex, which enjoys the patronage of actor David Tennant, with headquarters in Colchester, is a charity offering long term care and support for people who are living with brain injury as well as their families and carers.
Unlike many other physical disabilities, brain injury may not be obvious to another person. Any injury to the head can result in brain damage. The change in a sufferer may be gradual or sudden, and can involve some form of isolation or exclusion from the society around them including family and friends. The charity Headway Essex offers a wide range of care services to help, including:
Day care
Respite care
Brain injury advice and information
Recreational activities
Craft and Art therapy
Adult & computer education
Training in dealing with the brain injured
Daily living skills
Although a charity Headway Essex works with the Strategic Health Authority, PCTs, hospitals and social services by providing day care facilities and assistance for people with acquired brain injury. They give community based advice and support to people, not only in Colchester, but across the county.
The Day Centre at Headway House, on the Boxted Road, Colchester, provides care, exercise activities, communication and interpersonal skills as well as social events. It operates five days a week from 10.00am until 3.00pm. At Headway House at 58b Head Street, Colchester there is a complete advisory service covering all aspects of coping with brain injury. It is also where all aspects of their fund raising is based.
As in all charitable organisations fund raising is a major occupation . If you would like to help by either making a regular donation, by voluntary assistance, event organization or in any way, then call at or telephone their Head Street headquarters.
