A little part of Victoriana has come to Clevedon Pier. Big Bertha is a traditional cut out of a curvaceous bathing beauty (I can’t abide the word plump) and she is visiting Clevedon Pier courtesy of the owners of the Grand Pier at Weston- super- Mare.
Bertha is waiting to have her photo taken with pier visitors and provides us with a small reminder of how visitors amused themselves on piers in days gone by. Dressed in a fetching, saucy red and white striped bathing costume, Bertha will be resident at the Pier until the summer when she returns home.
If you have not yet visited Clevedon Pier, you are missing out on a very unique part of history. You may not realize it, but Clevedon Pier, the only fully intact, Grade 1 listed Pier in the country. How amazing is that…. If you have not visited the Pier, then it is a must. You may want to look at the wonderful views of the Severn Estuary, the islands Flat Holm & Steep Holm, the two Severn Bridges, and the best sunsets in the West Country. You may just want to blow away the cobwebs or visit Bertha for a fabulous photo.
