The best cream tea in somerset ?

Bookmark and Share

Sunday afternoon we headed down the M5 in the direction of Selworthy.  We had spent a wonderful morning at Tyntesfield in Wraxall, the amazing National Trust Victorian Estate.  The plan (always an omen when you start calling it a plan) was to go to Selworthy for a cream tea.  However after an hour stationary on the M5 we decided to turn around and go local.  Now its a bit of a local secret but the best cakes and cream teas I have found (and believe me I am an expert!) are at the Food Hut. (www.thefoodhut.co.uk).

Tucked away in the Golden Acres  Nursery on the Clevedon Road at Tickenham,  the Food Hut Cafe serves simply delicious cream teas and cakes.  There is a real art to this and they make the scones fresh and they are served with lovely clotted cream and real strawberry jam. I mean there is no faulting them.

The cakes are home made proper cake and my daughter enjoyed some perfect lemon cake. We topped it off with tea and hot chocolate.  I think al fresco meals taste better and we sat surrounded by lovely plants and apple trees watching a tame robin.

The simple things in life are the ones we should treasure (along with the Food Hut but shhhhhh its a secret) !
