Spirit of the Dog, in the Clacton-on-Sea region, an animal welfare society with a difference.
Many animal welfare societies rescue stray animals in and around Clacton-on-Sea but what happens when rescued dogs are labelled aggressive or have other behavioual problems? That's where Spirit of the Dog can help. An animal welfare society which works alongside other local societies like Clacton Animal Aid & the RSPCA, Spirit of the Dog works to solve behavioural issues in rescue dogs and make rehoming possible.
Professional behaviourists Claudine Tisbury and Jane Nettleton developed the idea of Spirit of the Dog and this animal welfare society now has a committee of 11, with Trevor Hayward as Chairman. Other volunteers help out with rescue dogs as & when needed, offering fostering facilities following rescuing by other welfare societies throughout the Clacton-on-Sea area.
Spirit of the Dog initially set out to raise sufficient funds to become a registered charity and have recently been given such status. The next goal is to get the money to buy & build a Spirit of the Dog rehabilitation centre, so that they no longer have to work with the rescue dogs at the premises of other animal welfare societies in the Clacton-on-Sea region.
Whilst there are occasional opportunities to rehome animals from Spirit of the Dog directly, what they really need is donations and help with fundraising. Follow the link above to the Spirit of the Dog website to find out about forthcoming fundraising events, which in 2008 included the Brentwood "All About Dogs" show with an obedience display and charity stand and other events in the Clacton-on-Sea area - disco at Frinton Community Centre and a Quiz Night in St Osyth. Why not support their "Buy a Brick" Campaign?
