Welcome to Kitten Rescue

Looking for a cat or kitten to share your life? Visit Kitten Rescue at Alresford, near Clacton-on-Sea, an animal welfare sanctuary that's a little different.

It may be hard to believe but some people, whether unintentionally or deliberately, mistreat animals and sometimes abandon them altogether. There is a steady flow of injured, unwanted or stray cats and kittens all year round and some of the luckier ones end up at Brenda Davy's Kitten Rescue sanctuary in Alresford, near Clacton-on-Sea. Brenda runs the only independent, privately operated sanctuary in the Clacton-on-Sea area, although she is also Cat Coordinator for the RSPCA and works closely with other local Clacton-on-Sea rescue and animal charities.

Kitten Rescue aims to provide a safe haven for cats and kittens and to rehome them as soon as possible. Brenda also ensures that no healthy animal under her care is ever "put to sleep." Obviously, some cats are never going to be suitable for rehoming and Brenda regularly takes these into her own household, currently numbering 15 cats, all of whom are likely to be permanent residents.

In addition to that, 7 outdoor feral cats live on the premises , not to mention a few rabbits and even, at the time of our visit, ducklings! There are usually between 15 and 20 cats as "guests" waiting to be rehomed. Incredibly, Kitten Rescue boasts a fantastic average turn round time, from rescue to rehoming of a mere 6 - 8 weeks! In 2009, a total of 355 cats (including 280 kittens) were rehomed after a temporary stay with Brenda. What's more, she somehow manages all this by herself, although she is assisted by 4 kitten fosterers, 1 cat "cuddler" and some "trappers!"

There are some truly beautiful cats waiting for their new "forever" home in Clacton-on-Sea to come along, so if you're looking for a feline companion or two, why not make an appointment to visit Kitten Rescue? It's worth stating that Brenda's rehoming policy is based on individual circumstances and not subject to as strict a set of criteria as other rescue organisations.

Brenda can be contacted on 01206 826968 - donations are always welcome too!
