Hi all,
Firstly I would like to thank Steve for allowing me to blog on here, it is much appreciated.
I am taking part in a charity event to raise awareness of meningitis and funds to find a vaccine for the b-strain which is the most common strain of meningitis, living in about 10% of the population and is the most violent strain and can kill in less than 4hrs. Unfortunately my sister and her husband lost their 1st born, my nephew, to this strain when he was only 9 and a half months old, and the only symptoms that he showed were a high temperature and a slight red colour. Taking the advice of the nhs phone service and their local drop in centre they gave him calpol and plenty of water to bring his temp down and kept an eye on him, half way through the night they checked on him and his temperature had dropped and he had been moving around the cot so seemed to be getting better, but they were to later find out when the nhs service phoned back that this wasn't the case, his temperature was coming down as his body was shutting down. This all took a matter of a few hours.
In order to help raise awareness and funds they have already held a few events and done quite well, but now we are doing our biggest event yet, the Taylor Run. This is a rally taking place from the 23rd-30th october and we will be driving across the uk, roughly 2000 miles in the week, in cars bought for no more than £500.
I am currently looking for sponsors for my car/team "Not so Fast and Furious". Ideally we are looking for local/national businesses to sponsor at least £100, for the money we can offer advertisement for the business on the car, on the event site, and there are various tv and magazines covering the event.
The event starts and finishes in Ipswich with seperate events on both days.
For more information, please feel free to contact me at glynnwestley@hotmail.com, or visit the event site, where you could also sign up to take part, www.taylor-run.com where you can find links to sponsor my car or any other team, all donations/sponsorship will be gratefully received.
For more information about meningitis, there is a link on the event site or go to www.meningitisuk.org
Many thanks
Glynn
